5 Tips for carrying your pet in a carrier

1. YOUR PET’S VACCINES, UP TO DATE
This is something basic and the first thing you have to look at if you don’t want to get an unpleasant surprise later.

Your dog or cat’s vaccination record must be up to date. In fact, if you are going to travel to an exotic country or have doubts about whether or not it is convenient to take your pet to certain places, ask your trusted veterinarian directly.

2. ACCESSORIES AND TOYS TO MAKE YOU FEEL AT HOME
We all know that dogs and cats (just like humans) are creatures of habit. They love having “their place”: their scratching post, their ball, their corner of the sofa, their bed…

If you are traveling somewhere with especially high temperatures, you may want to reconsider bringing a cooling blanket. Your dog is going to love it! They stay fresh for more than 3 hours and you will no longer have your pet begging for every dark corner of the house to get a dark and cold corner where they can sleep. In addition, they are anti-mosquitoes 🙂

And, of course, you can’t miss your favorite toys. If you go to the beach with your dog, bring his rubber ball and even try to get a rubber ball launcher. They are very fun and throw their ball so far that they will have a good race to get their prize.

A note: also take an extra pack of bags to collect your needs.

3. ALWAYS WITH YOUR FEEDER, YOUR HYGIENE KIT AND YOUR BED
We have already mentioned previously that our pets are animals that like to have their things in their place. You will make them feel much happier if you bring their accessories and they will become familiar with the new environment much more easily than if you bring nothing at all. You will have a happy companion and more money in your pocket.

A good option that is being well received by animal lovers is to opt for foldable silicone feeders. They take up much less space in your suitcase and are very easy to carry in case you go on a road trip or spend a day in the countryside. And of course, it’s more eco-friendly!

As a last point, make sure you bring everything you need to groom your pet: brush, shampoo, towel, comb, etc. Cats do not need to be bathed as frequently, but dogs, especially those with good hair, need more care in that regard.

4. HOW ARE YOU GOING TO TRANSPORT YOUR PET?
Carrying a dog is not the same as carrying a cat, a turtle or a simple fish. If the trip is by car, if your pet is a dog, you may consider not taking it in its carrier and opting to tie it with a belt (especially if it has a calm nature).

However, with a cat this option is not feasible and it is mandatory to have a carrier, with its blanket. And if we bring any other type of pet, adapt their environment so that it is as peaceful as possible during the trip.

Obviously, it will also depend on the means of transport you use: traveling on a bus is not the same as traveling on a plane. We will discuss this topic later.

THE MEANS OF TRANSPORTATION MUST BE TAKEN INTO ACCOUNT
We have already mentioned before how important it is that the animal is comfortable while traveling. Now, unfortunately the transport of animals and people is something that is not completely reconciled and many times they are not treated with the delicacy that should be depending on the means of transport used:

– Bus: some companies charge extra for transporting animals and usually require that they be carried in a ventilated, resistant and waterproof compartment. They also recommend sedating them, especially if they get stressed easily (they will be in a narrow, dark space).

–Airplane: in this mode the process is longer. First of all, you need to show its vaccination record and certificates in case the animal has some type of therapeutic purpose. Additionally, you should check the conditions of the particular airline. For example, in the case of Vueling, they do not allow dogs weighing more than 8 kg to travel.

–Boat: it is a situation similar to that of the plane, each company has its particular restrictions. Although it is true that the travel conditions are somewhat better, as some have large, well-ventilated spaces so that your pet can breathe well and not get overwhelmed. Some companies even allow the animal to be with you on deck, such as Cunard Line. Unfortunately, the ticket is not suitable for all budgets.

–Car: we think it is the best and safest option so that you can better control your pet. Although it is mandatory for it to go in a carrier, you make sure that the animal is comfortable at all times, it will not be locked in a warehouse or overwhelmed by being alone. We must ensure, however, their safety and that of the travelers so that everything goes in luxury.

5. FOOD, WATER AND CANDY: THE THREE INSEPARABLES
Your pet must be hydrated, fed and not lose discipline wherever it goes.

That’s where treats come in: if you have a dog
